Use of Passive<\/h2>\n

Passive voice is used when the focus is on the action. It is not important or not known, however, who or what is performing the action: My bike was stolen.<\/p>\n

In the example above, the focus is on the fact that my bike was stolen. I do not know, however, who did it.<\/p>\n

Sometimes a statement in passive is more polite than active voice, as the following example shows:\u00a0 A mistake was made.<\/p>\n

  6. The boy (fall \/ not)<\/span> off his bike.<\/li>\n
  7. I (bite \/ not)<\/span> by a snake.<\/li>\n
  8. He (step)<\/span> on my toe.<\/li>\n
  9. We (walk)<\/span> all the way home.<\/li>\n
  10. She (pick up \/ not)<\/span> by a friend.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
